Why we built OwenPay

Cross-border payments are the most painful problem hiding in plain sight. Here's what we saw, and what we're building.

A friend who runs a translation agency in Houston told me that her best translator, a woman in Argentina, had threatened to quit. Not because of the work. Not because of the pay rate. Because every month, she waited five days for her wire transfer, then watched 6% of it disappear to the FX spread before it landed in her bank account in pesos that were worth less by the time the wire arrived.

Her translator wanted to be paid in stablecoins. The agency owner had no idea where to start.

That conversation kept playing back in my head. Not because it was unique, but because it wasn't.

The hidden tax on global work

Cross-border payments in 2026 still run on infrastructure designed in the 1970s. Wire transfers move through correspondent banks, each one taking a cut, each one taking a day. By the time a payment lands, both sender and recipient have lost time, money, and patience. The numbers are staggering when you actually total them up. A mid-size translation agency paying 200 contractors monthly loses roughly $40,000 a year just to fees and FX spreads. A creator platform paying 5,000 creators globally loses millions.

And that's just the financial cost. The harder cost is what happens to the people on the receiving end. Top contractors leave for clients who pay faster. Recipients in countries with currency volatility watch their pay erode while it sits in correspondent bank limbo. Finance teams burn 20+ hours per cycle reconciling failed wires.

We've decided as an industry that this is normal. It isn't.

What changed

Stablecoins have quietly become a real payment rail. Not the speculative crypto of 2021, but boring, regulated, dollar-denominated stablecoins running on infrastructure that settles in seconds for pennies. USDC alone moved over $390 billion in payment volume in 2025, the majority of it B2B.

The technology is here. The infrastructure partners exist. The regulatory framework is becoming clearer every quarter. What's been missing is software that takes this powerful but technical infrastructure and makes it usable for actual businesses with actual problems. Most stablecoin payment products today are built for crypto-native users by crypto-native founders. They're powerful but not accessible.

OwenPay is what happens when you build a stablecoin payouts platform for a translation agency owner who doesn't want to know what a stablecoin is. She wants her translator paid in 60 seconds, in the currency her translator wants, with the tax forms generated automatically.

What we're building

We're building the modern payouts platform for businesses that work across borders. Translation agencies, marketing agencies, content studios, clinical research organizations, medical tourism operators, tournament platforms, creator marketplaces. Anyone paying contractors or partners across countries.

The product is simple to describe. Upload a payment batch. Fund it from your existing bank. Recipients get paid in seconds, in their preferred form. Tax forms are generated automatically in their language. Audit trails are saved for your finance team. That's the entire surface area for the customer.

What's underneath is more complex. We orchestrate stablecoin rails, KYC and KYB across dozens of countries, on-ramps and off-ramps, embedded wallets, AI-driven document generation, compliance reporting, and full audit logging. The customer never sees any of that. They see fast payments and happy contractors.

The bet we're making

The bet is that the world's payouts will move to stablecoin rails over the next decade, and the winners will be vertical platforms that hide the complexity, not horizontal infrastructure providers. Bridge, BVNK, and Circle will own the rails. OwenPay and platforms like it will own the workflow. That's where the customer relationship lives.

We're starting with the businesses we understand best, those paying global contractors and creators, with a particular focus on Spanish-language and Latin American corridors where the demand is most acute. From there, we'll expand into more verticals: medical tourism, clinical trials, tournament payouts, royalties, settlements.

If you run a business that pays people across borders, we want to talk to you. We're onboarding design partners now. Request access here and we'll be in touch within 24 hours.

The translator in Argentina deserves to get paid in 60 seconds. So does everyone else doing real work in a world that hasn't caught up to them yet.
